Clarendon House regeneration: Cambridge
Background
Cavendish supported Wrenbridge with political and community engagement in relation to the redevelopment of Clarendon House, an office building in central Cambridge. Wrenbridge is based close to Cambridge and has several projects in the city.
Strategy
A thorough engagement strategy was developed to facilitate constructive engagement with the local community and provide local stakeholders with opportunities to view and give feedback on the proposals.
This comprised a phased approach beginning with the creation of a series of key messages that guided the narrative of the project. This included the need for office space, sustainable redevelopment, encouraging active travel, and tree treatment.
The site was located in the ward represented by the Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning Policy & Infrastructure’s at the City Council, which underscored the importance of effectively engaging with the local community.
Accordingly, prior to submission, a series of stakeholder meetings were arranged by Cavendish with a ward councillors and planning committee members, alongside representatives of key charitable and community groups.
An in-person exhibition event was held in a venue close to the site. This was supported by a virtual exhibition which displayed the same information as was presented at the in-person exhibition.
Following submission, Cavendish advised on committee preparation and contact with committee members.
The
results.
The scheme was granted planning permission by a majority of members at planning committee, raising the bar for development in Cambridge and laying the foundation for Wrenbridge to bring forward further development projects in the city.
