Deryn have been the wind beneath our wings in the campaign for a HIV Action Plan for Wales and the lobbying for our priorities to be reflected in the plan. With their help, the events were second to none. At every stage, they added value, and at key moments, they went above and beyond for our cause – the results speak volumes.

Background
We’ve supported Terrence Higgins Trust Cymru build political momentum to help develop the first ever HIV Action Plan for Wales with the goal of ensuring no new cases of HIV by 2030.
A Welsh Government commitment, we worked with THT Cymru to raise awareness and understanding of what was needed in a national action plan, in addition to building cross party support for the policy calls.
Strategy
Terrence Higgins Trust is the largest voluntary sector provider of HIV and sexual health services in the UK .
They worked with others to successfully campaign for a Welsh Government commitment to a HIV Action Plan, and we supported them to ensure this led to delivery early in the parliamentary term.
We helped build a cross party coalition of support for the actions needed to ensure no new cases of HIV by 2030. Activity focused on direct briefings, parliamentary activity and events to highlight World Aids Day, THT’s 40th birthday, and HIV testing week.
After the Plan was launched, we organised and facilitated an online roundtable discussion with Local Health Board members, cliniicans, Welsh Government officials, politicians and stakeholders to ensure a better understanding of the Plan’s actions, and THTs role in delivering its objectives.
The
results.
THT secured improvements to the HIV Action Plan, and through our political engagement, we gained cross-party support for the improvements and the actions needed.
We engaged directly with the majority of LHBs in Wales on actions needed and in raising awareness of THTs role in delivering the objectives withing the plan.
THT’s work, and our support won the PRCA award for best campaign in Wales in 2022.
