Oxford to Cambridge
Insight Report

Councillors’ perspectives on the Oxford to Cambridge growth corridor.

The previous Government’s move away from Oxford to Cambridge as a strategic opportunity area in 2022 was starting to be reversed by the establishment of the Pan Regional Partnership and commitments to major growth in Cambridge. The Labour Government shows no sign of undermining this momentum.

But successful growth in this region hinges as much on local buy-in as it does on leadership from central government.

Working with Savanta, Cavendish polled councillors from the Oxford to Cambridge region to understand their attitudes and priorities when it comes to regional growth.

50% of councillors believe the growth corridor will have a positive impact and 43% think it will be delivered. When isolated to first term councillors, 20% believe it will have a positive impact and 34% think it will be delivered.

By aligning communications about the corridor with the priorities that this polling reveals, we can continue to tackle scepticism and manage ongoing political change across the region to build further positive momentum behind the growth corridor.
