YIMBY or NIMBY?
Public attitudes towards infrastructure.
As a general election looms, our latest polling report (conducted by YouGov) coincides with an increase in promises from political parties to speed up planning, drive investment in the infrastructure supply chain and deliver better systems and services for communities across the UK.
But are these infrastructure priorities resonating with the public? And what does more infrastructure mean to the communities who will need to host it?
NIMBY (not in my back yard) is a term often used to describe individuals and groups opposed to development on their doorsteps. The reality is a lot more nuanced.
Our report goes beyond the ‘NIMBY’ title, taking a detailed look at public views on infrastructure. It looks at what type of infrastructure developments the British public would support in their area, the key concerns that the public has when it comes to hosting infrastructure, and who the public see as the blockers to the delivery of major projects.
