The importance of conversation.

By Verity Barr – Director and Head of Brand Communications

Good communications is all about conversation.

Conversations bring people together; they challenge opinions, they spark debate. Good conversations share stories, encourage us to think differently, even change our point of view.

As a communications consultancy, we spend our lives creating and shaping conversations for our clients and, as a gang of communicators it’s also fair to say that we love a good chat.

That’s why we created Cavendish Conversations – a moment to bring the whole company together and talk about something interesting, thought provoking and, sometimes, uncomfortable or challenging.

We invite people with stories to tell into our business to share their experiences. We listen and ask questions, and most importantly, we learn.

From the Holocaust survivor who taught us about inner strength and resilience to the first female commercial airline pilot who overcame challenges and prejudice to succeed. From the historian who explores how Victorian innovation has shaped our world to a breast cancer patient who promotes body positivity. What our speakers have in common is that they are ordinary people with extraordinary stories.

We each take something away from the conversations, and while that something might be different for each of us, they inspire all of us. And that’s our aim – we want our people to be interesting and interested, to embrace our differences and learn from each other’s experiences.

Our culture is one of inclusion and positivity and we work hard to create spaces for connection and growth. Cavendish Conversations is just one way we achieve it and we know it’s working. In our most recent staff survey, 93% of our team said they feel valued and respected every day.

We’re proud of what we’re building together at Cavendish, and being named one of the UK’s Best Places to Work in the Sunday Times for two years running is the icing on the cake. With the award based on an employee survey, our success reflects our culture of trust, wellbeing, and equity.
