After finishing university in 2020 at the peak of Covid, like most graduates I was apprehensive about limited job opportunities.
After working several retail and hospitality jobs whilst deciding what I wanted to do, I was lucky to get the opportunity to intern as an Account Executive for a month at BECG, now Cavendish.
With my only experience of marketing coming from the modules I had studied at university; this opportunity was a perfect chance for me to gain insight into the diverse responsibilities and different roles marketing has to offer.
During my internship, I worked across both the Group Marketing and Digital Marketing and Experience Team.
I was given the opportunity to contribute to significant projects, including the internal launch of SoCrowd and working with clients such as Amex GBT, United Utilities and creating social content for the Spitfire Project.
One of my highlights was being given the chance to write a blog post looking into the use of TikTok as a marketing channel within the property sector. Whilst this task felt outside of my comfort zone, I gained useful insights into the property industry, and it was my first experience of taking ownership of a project.
A huge takeaway from the experience were the relationships I built with clients and colleagues. Learning the art of relationship-building and gaining insights into the range of responsibilities I could undertake were invaluable lessons.
The supportive team at Cavendish played a pivotal role, with everyone taking the time to teach and encourage me to take on projects independently.
When Will Balme, our Group Head of Digital Experience Marketing, reached out to me with an opportunity for a permanent role, I knew it was a chance I couldn’t afford to miss.
Despite the nerves due to being away for almost a year, the team welcomed me back with open arms.
Their continuous support has been instrumental in helping me overcome challenges and progress to Senior Account Executive within my first year, providing me with the opportunity to relocate from the Southampton office to the office in London.
