The 2022 Digital Communications in the Built Environment Survey

In 2021 we conducted our inaugural survey of digital professionals working in the built environment.

At the time we believed there was a step change to make within our sector, we knew the pandemic had shifted focus to digital and it happened at pace, but how were we using digital technologies and platforms across our communications teams, and where was the room for improvement?

Don’t get left behind, be part of the change.

In forming the survey we had always wanted to create a benchmark and index year on year, and earlier this year we published the 2022 survey to see how things had changed over the last 12 months, and what opportunities lay ahead.

We are excited to share the results of the survey, and by building a website to present our key findings, we are allowing viewers to review year on year change and toggle between the results.

From the data we are seeing more and more business adopting digital first approaches to their communications and digital first strategies encompassing all channels. Maturation is also reflected in improvements made to measuring return on investment – with more companies implementing workflows and governance to validate digital expenditure.

79% of businesses surveyed now have a digital first approach to communications, up from 41% in 2021.

With maturity, meaning more personnel and budgets focused to deliver digital first strategies, our respondents also pointed to more content marketing and immersive technology to drive the industry forward in 2022 and beyond.

We hope the survey and the review of 2021 & 2022 results encourages you to ask questions about your own digital communications and maturity. Please do not hesitate to email if you have any questions, or want a conversation about how we can help your planning for 2023.
