Background

Cavendish has a national appointment with Aldi to provide consultation and engagement services for all of its new stores. This experience, past and present, includes supporting projects in Gwynedd, Wrexham, Isle of Anglesey, Flintshire, Conwy, Denbighshire, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Pembrokeshire, and Bridgend. Our work has ranged from early engagement with MSs, MPs, councillors, and community councils regarding potential locations for new stores, through to the undertaking of fully compliant Welsh statutory consultations.

Strategy

Stakeholder engagement: with the Welsh Senedd, our sites in Wales have an additional tier of political stakeholder. This can make for really varied political environments with different political parties representing each level of governance. We are experienced in advising on bespoke approaches to engaging with stakeholders to build the political support required to positively influence decision makers. Sometimes this requires a top-down approach whereas in other circumstances our efforts focus on the immediate community and build up to demonstrate local support to more senior stakeholders.

Welsh language first approach: we have a deep understanding of the importance of ensuring everyone in Wales is able to access and feels encouraged to participate in our consultations. We are experienced in developing dual-language consultation collateral, as well as ensuring there are both Welsh and English speakers present at all in-person events and during all community and stakeholder canvassing exercises. Cavendish oversees translation services on all of Aldi’s new stores in Wales, not just for consultation and engagement activities, but also for the wider project disciplines including planning, architecture, and highways.

Statutory 28-day consultation process: our consultations are launched using a community newsletter which doubles as the statutory 28 pre-application consultation notice. We typically take responsibility for arranging and affixing physical site notices, and provide the online platform used to house our public exhibition, online feedback form, but also the technical planning documents as per the requirements of the statutory consultation.
